Tuesday, December 25, 2012 PHILIPPI, W. Va. -- Alderson-Broaddus head football coach and athletic director Dennis Creehan announced the 2013 football schedule Tuesday. The 10-game independent slate features contests with national opponents from New York, North Carolina, Indiana, Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Ohio and Tennessee. “We are really excited about the national schedule the Battler football team will play in 2013,” said Creehan. “We play 10 teams from nine different states and this schedule should help expand A-B’s regional footprint.” The Battlers open the season with a locally televised home contest against Pace University Saturday, Sept. 7. A-B travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., Sept. 14 to face Chowan University. The Hawks are members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and finished their 2012 campaign with a 6-4 record. Saint Joseph’s College visits the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium Sept. 21. The Pumas are members of the Great Lakes Football Conference. The blue and gold face a familiar opponent Sept. 28 as they host Virginia University of Lynchburg. The Battlers faced VUL to cap the 2012 season and lost 21-10. A-B opens October with a trip to Frankfort, Ky., to take on Kentucky State University Oct. 5. After back-to-back road contests against Point University (Oct. 12) and Warner University (Oct 19), the Battlers return home for a contest against Malone University Nov. 2. The Battlers load the bus and travel to Hickory, N.C., on Nov. 9 to face Lenoir-Rhyne University. LRU reached the NCAA Div. II Playoffs Second Round in 2012. A-B’s season finale features a match-up against another nationally ranked program in Cumberland University on Nov. 16. The Bulldogs finished the season ranked 20th in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25. 2013 Alderson-Broaddus Football Schedule Boldface denotes home games. |
