Nicole Kelly and
Jose Ramirez have been named the Alderson Broaddus Athletes of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
On Sunday at No. 1 Baylor, Kelly competed in 10 events for the Battler Acrobatics & Tumbling team. In the compulsory event, Kelly finished with an 8.75 in the acro round and followed it up with a 9.50 in pyramid and a 9.75 in the toss round.
During the acro portion of the meet, Kelly scored a 9.80 in the 6-element round and then recorded an 8.80 in and a 9.90 in heats one and two of pyramid.
Following halftime, Kelly competed in heat one of the toss event and finished with a 9.65 while also finishing with a 9.05 in the synchronized heat in toss. In the final event of the day, Kelly alongside her teammates finished with a score of 88.21 in the team event.
In their first home match of the year, the Alderson Broaddus men's volleyball team defeated Queens University of Charlotte 3-2 for their second win of the season. Ramirez led the Battlers with a career-high 20 kills and seven digs. He hit .289 in the match and has 48 total kills on the season.
Ramirez was also honored as the Independent Teams Player of the Week earlier in the week on Monday.
