DEVON, Pa. -- The Alderson Broaddus football team sponsored and hosted a Get in the Game. Save a Life. (GTIG) bone marrow donor recruitment drive that added 150 members to the Be the Match Registry.
"Our guys did a great job volunteering at the drive and generating support around campus," said Head Coach
Salvatore Dewalt. "We look forward to working with Coach Talley and the Be The Match Registry and hope to make this a yearly event. It is a great cause and we are honored to be a part of it."
A joint program between Coach Andy Talley and Be the Match, GTIG is a national program which uses the power of college athletics to help save the lives of those in need of stem cell or bone marrow transplants.
This year 108 colleges and universities participated in GITG and added 16,000 new members to the Be the Match Registry.
Although this was the Battlers first year participating in GITG, since 2008 the program has registered almost 100,000 donors and had 500 individuals were identified as a patient's best genetic match and honored their commitment to save a life.
