Philippi, W. Va. -- Alderson Broaddus Men's and Women's Soccer have partnered with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Vs. Cancer program to help raise money to battle pediatric cancer. Both teams have created online fundraising pages for the foundation, and their games on Saturday, October 26, against Trevecca Nazarene will be designated as "Vs. Cancer" games.
Started by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player Chase Jones, Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, and any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.
In partnership with Vs. Cancer, Alderson Broaddus University Soccer teams have selected West Virginia Medicine Children's Hospital to receive a portion of the funds they raise. The teams have a goal of $5,000 this season and will be collecting donations at the gates for both games, in addition to their online fundraising pages, in order to help reach this goal.
"I am very proud of our soccer programs for teaming up with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Vs. Cancer program," said AB Director of Athletics
Carrie Bodkins. "This is a great opportunity for our programs to give back on the local and national level, and another reason why we are proud to be Battlers. Thank you to the Vs Cancer program, and to our soccer programs, for coming together for such a great cause."
