PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Alderson Broaddus Women's Lacrosse put on a show at the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium and took the win 16-5 over in-state foe West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday night.
The Lady Battlers started the match quickly with a draw control and score in 37 seconds by
Brooke Dinehart to give AB the early lead. Dinehart collected the draw control on the next possession and
Bailey Fedun scored off a free position at the 25:47 to double the Battlers lead on the Bobcats.
WVWC scored on their next two possessions as they knotted the score at two apiece with a goal by Victoria Sisson at the 23:18 mark.
The Battlers took hold of the half and match as they scored five consecutive goals before Wesleyan picked up their third goal in the contest.
AB collected two more goals before the first half ended and went into the locker room up 9-3 over the Bobcats.
Women's Lacrosse came out of the locker rooms firing on all cylinders as they answered with seven consecutive goals to put the match out of reach 16-3 over the visiting Bobcats.
Dinehart earned another goal at the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium and
Bailey Fedun capped the goal scoring off for the Battlers at the 7:44 mark off a free position goal.
WVWC scored two late goals by Lovely Lopez to make the match 16-5 in favor of AB and the Battlers earned their home opener in front of the home fans.
Dinehart had a hat-trick on the evening with three goals, while
Bailey Fedun was the offensive catalyst with seven goals in the match.
Taheera Rodgers joined Dinehart with three goals and
Leslie Diaz chipped in two goals.
Patricia Chavira rounded out the scorers for AB with one on the day.
The Battlers outshot the Bobcats 40-9 in the contest and won 18 out of the 23 draw controls on the evening.AB was solid on the ground balls with 18 pickups to WVWC's nine.
Alderson Broaddus Women's Lacrosse (1-0, 0-0 G-MAC) will host Frostburg State University (0-0, 0-0 MEC) on Thursday, February 27th at 4:00 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.
